Sunshine Fund Grant

We won!!! I'm especially excited, because I honestly never win anything.  But, I hope that the new recliner in the BFC brings smiles to many people.  It should be delivered in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned for a small renovation in that room.  Laid back nursing demos here we come!

Rachael Says

We are packing up the 2025 charts to send to storage.  If you come across any charts in purple folders, please file them back in the boxes that are awaiting pick up - NOT the filing cabinets.  We don't want to miss any when they get sent away.

PPCR Flow
There will be some changes to how the PPCRs are distributed to Public Health.  To help out our OAAs, please mark HMHB on the top of the PPCRs, if you know that the client is a part of that program.  Thanks!

Changes to urgent SLP referrals

A message from SLP:
If a nurse has an urgent concern and needs to speak to a feeding therapist, please email BOTH

janna.kowalsky@saskhealthauthority.ca

Sheila.hosain@saskhealthauthority.ca

In the email if the child’s name, HSN and a summary of concerns could be provided that would be great.  We are finding that both therapists are getting messages, so it would be more efficient for them to all get the necessary information at the same time to expedite bookings.

If a child is being sent to emerg or you have a specific question regarding a recommendation from a therapist’s home feeding plan, please call 306 655 0202 for inpatient SLP.

Please cc Kerry in the email.  That way, if they have follow up questions, I can respond in a more timely manner if the nurse sending the referral is away.

Learning opportunities

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute recently released a new report that may be beneficial to healthcare professionals and service providers. Traumatic Head Injury Due to Child Maltreatment (THI-CM): A Literature Review provides current, evidence-based information on THI-CM (formally known as shaken baby syndrome or abusive head trauma). It covers multiple aspects of THI-CM, including mechanisms of injury, risk factors, diagnosis, long-term outcomes, and strategies for prevention.

To download the report, please visit https://skprevention.ca/resource-catalogue/traumatic-head-injury-due-to-child-maltreatment-thi-cm-a-literature-review/.

Please see the following link for the webinar opportunity on Community-Led Alcohol Harm Reduction: Evidence and Lessons from Rural and Remote Communities hosted by the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute.

If you are not able to attend at time it is live, sign up anyway & they will email you a recording.

H&H was assigned a new purchasing agent.  He was helping me pay for the Gold Conference.  He sent me this link about the evolution of breastmilk.  He said he found it fascinating.  I though it was so great to hear this from a man and someone outside of the breastfeeding industry!  https://search.asu.edu/profile/2740008

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are among the most common conditions of pregnancy and the postpartum period, yet they remain frequently underrecognized and undertreated. This webinar will review the prevalence, risk factors, screening, and the evolving safety literature on antidepressant use in pregnancy and postpartum, while addressing common myths and emphasizing the importance of timely, evidence-based treatment to improve outcomes for both mother and infant. A live Q&A with Dr. Standeven will follow the presentation.
